"Wines of Negotin Region"

Matalj Winery is founded on the basis of a long-standing tradition of growing grapevine in Negotin Krajina, with the aim of continuing to produce top quality wines with the seal of the climate. The Mladenović-Matalj family has been engaged in the production of premium grapes and wines for decades, and since 2007, the project of reconstruction of old vineyards and expansion of the cellar's capacity has begun. The philosophy in wine production comes down to simply preserving the properties of grapes in wine that are obtained from own vineyards.

Currently, Matalj Winery cultivates its 20ha of vineyards within three vineyards in the region of Negotin Krajina. The vineyards Kremen, Terasa and Bukovo represent a special micro whole with its specificity in terms of soil and climate and form the basis of quality. The new modern cellar at the Bukovo location in the vineyard itself can process and produce 200,000 l of the best quality wine.

Located above the Bukovo monastery, the Matalj Winery is designed to stir all the senses. The modernly equipped tasting room can accommodate about a hundred guests.
You will enjoy a fantastic selection of food (bruschettas, goat cheeses, homemade meat delicacies or grilled cheese from the Miroč mountain), top wines of your choice or the choice of the Winery staff and a view to the magical, massive, endless Danube and vineyards. And then the tour starts, step by step you will see how each grain turns into a drink of the gods.

Matalj Winery wines:

Terasa Chardonnay

The wine is painted in light yellow color. The scents are dominant fruity notes with a ton of mineral content. Pear, melon and apricot are the aromas that dominate, but are sprinkled with discreet aromas of toast, vanilla, nuts and butter. In the mouth the wine is extremely coherent, creamy, full, but also fresh and vibrant.

Terasa Sauvignon blanc  

This is a Sauvignon of straw yellow collor. It is characterized by freshness, a harmonious aromatic complex in which the aromas of the green tomato, turbot, tropical fruit, grapes, vineyard peach and citrus are clearly recognized. The wine is extractive, smooth, lively, but balanced, with a clear fruity finish.

Kremen kamen

Wine is of a dark ruby color. The smell of wine is extremely stratified, deep, complex. There are arable forests, a fresh list of tobacco, cedarwood, eucalyptus, sweet root, dried plums, black currants, blackberries, black cherries. On palate the wine is strong, extractive, but at the same time elegantly and tangled with high quality tannins. It is also complex in the mouth with a very intense fruity mineral taste and a very long after-impression.

Kremen Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine of the ruby color obtained after 12 months of aging in barrique barrels. It is characterized by ripe aromas of black currants, blackberries, rising, cedarwood with discrete tone of oak. The wine is with a good tannin structure, fruitful character and pleasant ending.

Dušica

Dušica is a wine of delicate pink color, equally gentle and discreet with the aroma of fresh strawberries, currants and raspberries. In the mouth, this wine is surprisingly full, with crispy acids, rounded and balanced. The finish is smooth, clean and long lasting. This is a real refreshing rose wine and we recommend it on hot summer days as an aperitif.

Bagrina

Bagrina is an expression of our climate that was almost forgotten, a variety that is disappearing and very rear wine. Bagrina is an old variety that has been brought to the edge of existence in recent years by unjustified neglect. There is still a wine and a wineyard that preserves the spirit of this wine and creates the potential for the wine of the future.

Tamjanika

Sweet, delicious wine, but still fresh, with an acid that goes great with the residual sugar in the wine. The wine is very soft, structured and fruity with a long aftertaste.

Začinak Bukovski

Dominant fruity scent of cherries, pomegranate and blueberries. On the palate, the wine is soft, moderately full, fresh and fruity.


Matalj Winery has received more than 80 awards and recognitions at the most important international and domestic evaluations, and the most important awards were received at:

• Decanter London (several medals in each evaluation in the last ten years)
• AWC, Vienna (Gold Medal 2014)
• Gold medal at Emozion Dal Mondo, Bergamo 2016.
• Balkan Wine Competition Sofia (more medals in the last ten years)
• Award for the best wine in Serbia and Grand Prix on VTV, Belgrade 2014
